What insurers really want when you file a claim

Timestamped records, photos, and service history can turn a stressful claim into a five-minute conversation.
Insurance claims aren't decided by how much you remember — they're decided by what you can prove. Adjusters look for three things: condition before the loss, cause of the loss, and scope of the damage.
Keep dated photos of major systems and finishes once a year. Roof, HVAC, water heater, kitchen, baths. They become your baseline.
Save every service receipt and inspection report. They show maintenance was current — which keeps wear-and-tear exclusions from killing your claim.
When something happens, document immediately: photos, video, timestamps. With organized records ready to share, most claims resolve faster and at a higher payout.
